Purpose. The controlled list of plant, equipment and chemicals at each site, with service dates, safety data sheets and the controls required for their use.

1.Scope

This register lists every cool room, delivery van, ladder, platform, foam saw, glue gun, hot knife and electrical appliance, and every chemical held at any site including flower preservatives, anti-ethylene treatments, leaf shine, bleach, sanitisers and adhesives. Each entry has an owner, a service or inspection interval and the location of its safety data sheet.

2.Equipment entries

Each equipment entry records the asset name, site, serial or fleet number, last service date, next service due, any test and tag date for electrical items, and the current status of in service, out of service or tagged out. Ladders and platforms must be inspected before each use and recorded quarterly.

3.Chemical entries

Each chemical entry records the product name, supplier, quantity held, storage location, the hazard classification from the safety data sheet, the personal protective equipment required and the disposal method. Safety data sheets must be less than five years old and held at the point of use.

  • Preservatives and treatments: gloves and eye protection when mixing
  • Bleach and sanitisers: gloves, ventilation, never mixed with other products
  • Adhesives and glue guns: burns first aid kit at the bench

4.Storage

Chemicals must be stored in the labelled cupboard at each site, in original containers, below eye level, away from food and out of customer areas. Decanted preservative solution must be labelled with the product name and date.

5.Review

The register must be reviewed every six months by the General Manager with each department lead. New equipment or chemicals must be added before first use and a risk assessment completed.

6.Current summary

The register currently holds four cool rooms, three delivery vans, six ladders and two mobile platforms, nine foam saws and hot tools, twenty-one electrical appliances and fourteen chemical products across the three sites.
